Offerer, Sardinia, Nuragic culture, 9th-7th century B.C. Bronze, Height: 8,5 cm. Ex private collection USA. The bronzes from Sardinia, known as Nuragic bronzes from the 9th c B.C. to the 6th c B.C., are well known for their elaborate soldiers. Another distinct group, but much rarer, are the offerers. They always have their right hand raised in a salute to the divinity, and carry offerings in their left hand. Our votive female offerer has in her left hand an offering plate. She wears a long thin hooded dress, a cape and a stola with engraved decorations, on her head a conical hat. Photo: Archea Ancient Art, Amsterdam |
